Socketed items !

Tarashai stared down the strange glowing object, much resembling some odd gnomish version of a mandrel. As he pointed it towards his longbow it started to hum and vibrate with energy. Testing it further he pointed it close to other items such as his armor, belt and more; always the same result. As soon as the point came sufficiently near the given item the glowing and vibration began.

Not willing to risk his trusty magical longbow he reached for his sachel and took out a small magical dagger he had found earlier and not yet sold. Slowly he then entrusted the strange tool into the hilt of the dagger…

*Zoinggg*

A small flash of light emitted as the mysterious contraption disappeared, leaving a small glowing recess in the fabric.

Being a fairly versatile and educated bard Tarashai came to think of tales from other world and how magical items functioned and were constructed there. A slight smile emerged on his lips. Once again he reached for the sachel, this time drawing out a small purse and emptying it on the table to reveal a multitude of very small gems. Picking one with a small symbol he enterpreted as some sort of armor he tried to move t closely to the recess in the dagger hilt. Nothing !

He then took one with a minute symbol that with a bit of imagination and a good deal of lore could resemble a spear enveloped by lightning. As he moved it towards the recess it too startet to glow. As he allowed it to touch into the recess the same flashing light emerged and the gem disappeared. Taking a good grasp on the dagger Tarashai smiled as minor electrical charges emitted from the blade. He took forth another similar gem and repeated the procedure and watched in delight at the crackling of the blade clearly grew more visible and powerfull. So this was the answer to the strange gems he had found lately !

Socketed items have emerged in the Inner Realms adding to the various ways of creating and combining magical custom items as well as improving upon old ones !

Observe that the magical effects/powers added still counts in the magical forge but using it on fully imbued items will still work. Also be advised that an item being socketed with the "Socket Tool x" is set to PLOT, meaning it can no longer be sold in shops.

So far only "Socket Tool I" is found meaning an item can so far only have one socket with an extra power, but who is to say what can be found for those who search the hardest...

NEWS on Socketed Items.

Using the "Socket Tool x" on an item no longer gives it the power of "Cast spell: Unique power self only"

The only function of this power was to be able to call a function telling how many socket were left available in the item and thus not really needed.

Further more socketing an item sets it to PLOT, i.e. makes it unsellable ( same as the forge does btw )

This in combination with some script modifications by Seeker means that the Socket Tool can now be used on ANY item making it ready for one or more socket gems as described in the post above and in the tome "An introduction to socketed items", in Castle Balder library.

Grr some issues atm so dont use any gem and socket tools you may find until it completely solved please :)

erm...yes....

Someone...whom we have no idea is *cough* had made a tiny wee error in a script and at the same time by mysterious means managed to overlook the slight "sf_sockets did not compile" message on module build. Let us not talk more about that !

Item socketing now works perfectly :)

Several updates is currently happening to the socket system behind the scenes, One however is very visible.

Vendors have been added to Xymoria and Darkmoor. These toolsmiths may trade in a bunch of socket tool I and a stash of gold for a Socket Tool II.

More than likely more will be added to this system in the near future :)

Damage type socket-gems may now be inserted into ranged weapons.
